I just finished watching Attack on Titan and wow, where do I even start? Even if you’re not into anime, you’ve probably heard of it, and for good reason. Now that I’ve seen it all, I can confidently say it’s one of the most impactful works in modern pop culture. Honestly, everyone should give it a shot, no matter their usual preferences.
I'm not a huge anime fan myself. I've seen the classics, Dragon Ball, Hunter XHunter, Death Note, Demon Slayer, Cowboy Bebop and a few others. Attack on Titan blows them all out of the water. It’s set a new standard for everything I’ll watch from now on, the same way The Witcher 3 raised the bar for game storytelling back in the day.
Eren Yeager, the main character, lives in the Shiganshina District and dreams of seeing the world beyond the walls with his friend Armin and his adoptive sister Mikasa. Their lives are ordinary, until one day a colossal Titan smashes through the wall, allowing other titans to pour in. Eren’s mother is devoured right in front of him and from that moment, he swears to destroy every Titan that exsists. Titans are these huge humanoid creatures roaming outside the walls. They keep attacking and eating people, and no one really knows where they came from or what their goal is. Where did they come from? What's their purpose? It remains unsolved.
You might expect it to be cliché or uninspiring but trust me, it’s anything but that. The show is packed with mystery, layered storytelling, and subtle details that make it incredibly compelling. And if you think you know what it's all about after just a few episodes, stick with it at least through the first two seasons. You will surely be surprised a lot.
This is probably the first time I’ve experienced a story so masterfully crafted from beginning to end. Even in the earliest episodes, small details resurface much later and when they do, they make perfect sense. Unlike many shows that leave loose ends, Attack on Titan ties almost everything together. At first glance, it may seem like a typical shōnen, but it quickly dives into deeper themes like war, freedom, sacrifice, chasing dreams, and friendship.
The ending is incredibly satisfying too, it brings everything together in a way that will leave you speechless. Some scenes are guaranteed to give you goosebumps. If you’re into pop culture at all, this is a must-watch. It’ll turn you into a fanatic, and you’ll remember it for years to come, probably even rewatching it just to relive its brilliance. With unforgettable characters and scenes packed with mystery and intensity, it’s truly something special.
I honestly wish I could erase my memory just to experience it all over again. I rarely call anything a masterpiece, but Attack on Titan truly earns that title. Nothing is ever perfect, but I can’t find a single serious flaw here. I’d give it a 10/10 without hesitation. If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and dive in! Those 30 hours will be unforgettable, and they’ll raise your expectations for everything else you watch from now on.
I doubt anything will top Attack on Titan for me anytime soon. Much like The Witcher 3 has stayed among my favorites game stories to this day, I suspect Attack on Titan will remain my favorite anime even a decade from now. I hope it becomes one of your favorites too! I highly recommend it ⭐
Kisses, hugs and brilliance 🌟
